Le Grand Duc A
- Type: Chalet
- Sleeps: 8 (4 Bedrooms)
- Change Over Day: Saturday
This Chalet sleeps eight in comfort and has four twin / double bedrooms, three with en-suite facilities and one separate, and is ideal for families, groups of friends or for the individual skier. We pride ourselves on quality catering. Cooked or continental breakfast comes with a choice of cereals, fresh bread, fruit and yoghurt. Afternoon tea with a freshly baked cake awaits your return. Pre-dinner drinks and canapés are served in the evenings followed by a freshly prepared four course meal, with superior quality wines. Typically, this might include smoked salmon spring rolls with a coriander sauce, cucumber and dill salad with yoghurt dressing, medallions of pork marinated in basil pesto on a confit of onions and finally white vanilla tart with chocolate sauce. A glass of port and coffee nicely round off your meal.
Your hosts have one well deserved day off during the week, when a continental breakfast is served and afternoon tea is left out for you. In the evening we recommend you try one of the many local restaurants in and around the resort.

Meribel Area
Meribel, a brief guide to this famous corner of France
Set at the heart of the 3-Vallees skiing area, Meribel offers traditional alpine charm combined with convenient state-of-the-art skiing and one of the most extensive and effective lift systems anywhere in the alps. With an excellent range of runs there is unrivalled skiing to suit everyone.
In addition to the many runs in Meribel valley, the lift system gives easy access to the extensive runs in Courchevel, Val Thorens, Les Menuires and St Martin de Belville. For the more adventurous skier the 'Fourth Valley' beyond Val Thorens is now easily reached by the new Funitel de Fond.
Ski and boot hire:
We recommend Freeride.fr for all your ski and boot hire. To make your holiday as smooth as possible we like to pre-book your skis and boots and to arrange to have them fitted either at the chalet or the shop. At the end of the week we will return them for you.
Ski School:
There is a good choice of Ski Schools in Meribel.
We particularly recommend New Generation, the specialist British ski school based in both Meribel and Courchevel. Here you can learn from fully qualified and highly motivated coaches in your own language. There is a choice of courses and clinics as well as private coaching.
The French school Magic in Motion is also well regarded and has English speaking instructors, small class sizes and caters for children and adults.
There is a well established school of the ‘Ecole de Ski Francaise’ (ESF) which can provide instruction in a wide range of languages.
It is advisable to pre-book and during the peak weeks, New Year and mid-February, it is essential. We can make the arrangements for you, subject to availability.
Off-piste skiing:
For the competent off-piste skier, interested in exploring away from the main skiing areas, the Bureau des Guides has an active programme each week and details will be available in the chalets.
Premier Service:
Cooltip Mountain Holidays is a family company providing high quality catered holidays in Meribel. We own our chalet appartments and this gives us a long term commitment to the resort. As a family we have been sking in Meribel for many years. We know the area well and are committed to providing you with the quality of holiday we ourselves would expect. Our personal service is designed to accommodate your particular needs, so for more information or if you have any special requests, simply phone us and ask to speak to Hugh.
Summer in Meribel, relaxing, warm and great fun :
Set at the heart of the 3-Vallees skiing area, Meribel offers traditional alpine charm combined with convenient state-of-the-art skiing and one of the most extensive and effective lift systems anywhere in the alps. With an excellent range of runs there is unrivalled skiing to suit everyone.
Although well known as a Winter Holiday resort, Meribel is an ideal centre for both relaxation and activity holidays throughout much of the rest of the year.
From late May onwards the combination of spring colours and Alpine scenery provides a wonderful setting for walking holidays. As the snow melts the alpine plants burst forth giving rise to a carpet of colours. The footpaths are well signed and there is scope for every level of walking from gentle woodland to rugged mountain.
By early June the snow has receded from Meribel’s 18-hole golf course, set high up on the west facing slope with views across to the alpine ridges. There are at least a dozen other golf courses within a little over an hour’s drive, all of which are ‘pay and play’.
July sees the resort springing into life with a wide range of activities, including mountain biking, riding, tennis, and white water rafting. At the end of August the bustle ceases and with the onset of autumn comes another range of colours and opportunities for a last walking holiday before winter.
Other summer activities include:-
Rock Climbing, Canyoning, Clay pigeon shooting
Fly fishing, Paragliding, Grass-skiing
Archery, Skating, Swimming
During July and August selected lifts operate, giving easy access to high levels for walking, mountain biking or just enjoying the spectacular scenery.
At ‘Le Grand Duc’ we can help you with all these activities. Weekly multi-activity packs are available.
