If you fancy a break in the Correze, you’re planning a tour around France, a house-hunting trip, or just want to get away from it all – we have just the place for you!

The Old Granary is ideal for a couple (with perhaps one child), is completely self-contained and has an open plan design. The double bedroom, which is furnished in pine, is on an open mezzanine to the rear and this overlooks the lounge, in which you’ll find a settee (which opens out to an additional bed for one, if required), a dining table and kitchenette.

The stone terrace, which is not overlooked, has patio furniture and a barbecue for your use during the summer months.

You would also be welcome to make use of our private splash pool during the summer months, but please be aware that this would be at your own risk as the pool is unsupervised. The pool is of the inflatable variety; size: 1m deep, 4.5m diameter. It is normally set up from about the end of May and is used only by guests of The Old Granary and by ourselves when our guests are out and about.

The Limousin/Auvergne Region

The Weather
One of the most beautiful times to visit the Correze is in the Spring, when it is often sunny and hot and everything is bursting into life, but there are not many tourists about.
July and August are peak season for the French as for the English so it gets more lively with more going on in the bars etc. The weather is usually hot and can be stormy.
September and October are very peaceful here, but the summer weather normally continues through these months, even into November sometimes and the forests are stunning in their autumn colours.
Winter usually begins with a vengeance after Christmas, when we can get lots of snow and certainly some fine minus temperatures, but the beauty of the Correze never alters.

Places of interest:
TREIGNAC - the local town and officially one of the most beautiful villages in France, is crossed by the River Vezere and lies at the foot of the Monedieres.
ARGENTAT - a pretty little town set on the banks of the River Dordogne, which flows through the Correze.
THE PLATEAU DE MILLEVACHES - perfect for nature lovers with it's abundance of ponds and marshland, birds and wildlife.
TURENNE - Between the remains of the castle and the walls, a square keep and the round tower of Caesar still survive. Rich sandstone mansions lean up against the fortress.
GIMEL LES CASCADES - 3 spectacular waterfalls, tumbling into the verdant valley.
CHATEAU DE VAL - one of the best conserved and most remarkable castles in the area, this imposing fortress is flanked by six towers with pepper-pot turrets, the different roofs of which give VAL an original combination of colours.
COLLONGES LES ROUGES - ancient unusual red stone village, steeped in history.
TOURS DE MERLE - The home of an eleventh century family, who over the years tyrannised the surrounding neighbourhood, exacting fees from all who sought to descend the river past them. It wasn't until the hundred years war and the advent of gunpowder that they could be dislodged from their strongpoints. Throughout the summer there are "Son et Lumière" shows and outside the season, the guided tours continue. The Tours de Merle are an absolute must, not just for the historical curiosity, but for the beauty of the site.

Chamberet Area

CORREZE: THINGS TO DO

There are some very good restaurants in the area, one of which is just near the chalets, overlooking the lake and there are several cafe-bars in Treignac (one pictured left) which are very friendly and are super for just sitting, taking in the atmosphere and watching the world go by.

If you are feeling lively, the area boasts several water sport activities, such as waterskiing on the nearby lakes, rafting, kayaking and canoeing on the rivers Vezere, Vienne and Dordogne as well as on the various lakes, where windsurfing is also a popular choice.

The lake is also ideal for swimming, with the sandy beach only 200m away from the chalets and is perfect for those who prefer to do nothing more strenuous than work on their tan!
Table tennis, volley ball and badminton can be played on the beach, where there is also a children's playground. Lifeguards survey the beach during July and August.

For the mountain bikers amongst you, there are several VTT trails in the vicinity with some ‘Black’ runs to test the most seasoned mountain biker. (The Mountain Bike Championships were hosted here in June 2004).

Two local equestrian centres cater for learners and experienced riders alike, both of whom can go trekking on the peaceful woodland trails.

The tranquil Correze is a walker’s paradise and Treignac is situated on the GR440 and G46, major official walking routes of France, so you will be able to explore to your heart’s content the unspoilt, rolling hills and forests of the Correze.

There are four golf courses within an hour's drive of Treignac, two of which have 18 holes and two 9 holes. They are open all year round. Pictured left is the 9 hole course at Peyrelevade, practically the most northern point of the Correze.

Correze offers 5000km of rivers and streams, plus 4000 hectares of lakes and ponds, offering the fisherman carp, bream, tench, pike, perch and trout amongst other varieties.
