La Belle Epoque, Paris

  • Type: Apartment
  • Sleeps: 5 (2 Bedrooms)
  • Change Over Day: None set, please contact owner
  • Long term lets considered
  • Non smoking only
  • Wheelchair inaccessible
  • suitable for children
  • suitable for the elderly

From the moment you enter the apartment, you'll be struck with the meticulous detail gone into decorating the flat fitting with the times of the mid-late 1800's.

The doorway you walk through, a stately double door, takes you to a foyer where a beautiful marble table sits with a mirror hung over it. The WC, kitchen, salon and dining/sitting room are all off of this hallway.

Upon entering the kitchen, you'll see a doorway leading to the dining table which seats 6- very convenient when preparing dinner with your groceries purchased at one of the neighbourhood markets.

The closest one, on rue Cadet, is open in the evenings. Additionally, rue des Martyrs is only about a 7 minute walk away and has an abundant selection of food stores.

The square by metro Anvers, a few minutes away has started a Friday evening marche as well. If you choose to visit this one, you have a lovely view on Sacre Coeur as you walk toward the square. The owners, by the way, are chefs so they have equipped the kitchen with all you could need: blender, food processor, toasted sandwich maker, cocotte, pots and pans, etc.

In the same room as the dining table (see photo at top the top of this page), there is a classic love seat covered in vintage tapestry with decorative cushions. It faces a large wardrobe which houses all of the linens you would need for your stay.

In front of the window in this room is marble table with two chairs where you can enjoy an early morning cafe or evening nightcap. There is also a television with DVD player in this room plus a stereo with a CD player.

When you enter the salon, you can sink into the comfortable sofa which opens to a bed for two or sit at the long table that doubles as a desk to write postcards of your stay in Paris.

Beside the window in this room is another antique marble table with chairs- a perfect spot to sit and read.

You will notice that every room has a window, providing a constant stream of light.

This room, like the others, is decorated with richness and splendour.

Access to both bedrooms are through separate doors in the salon.

The master bedroom, shown on the right, has a beautiful antique bed frame with head and foot boards all accented in blue.

In the corner of the room, a mirrored vanity table allows space for you to put your everyday affairs or some wonderful French perfume you may have purchased.

The ensuite in this bedroom has a toilet, sink and a bathtub with shower.

The guest bedroom has a closet (door to the right of the secretary/chest of drawers) which houses a combination washer/drier.

Again, meticulous attention has been paid to the details: bed cover with matching pillows and window covering accented in red.

The ensuite for this bedroom has a toilet, sink and shower.

The owners have truly gone to a great extent to make this apartment both luxurious and comfortable so we hope you enjoy your stay!

The Paris/Ile de France Region

This part of Paris is known as 'Les Grands Boulevards'. The Grands Boulevards are long chains of avenues that join the Madeleine to the Opera to the gates of St. Denis and St. Martin, the last to the place de la Republique, and the Republique to the Bastille. They were laid out in the 17th century on the site of obsolete city walls and served as a centre of café and theatre life in the 18th and 19th centuries, reaching the height of fashion during the belle epoque.

On of the oldest music halls in Paris, Les Folies Bergere which has been around for 130 years, is just around the corner.

Even today, if you ask a Parisian, they will say that it is their 'Broadway' and they still love to stroll through the area to feel the pulse of the city.

Central Paris Area

This apartment is very central to many sites and shops. It's a 15 minute walk to Au Printemps and Galeries Lafayette, a 12 minute walk to Gare du Nord, Gare de l'Est, and Sacre Coeur, a 10 minute walk to Musee Grevin and Musee de la Vie Romantique, a 30 minute walk to Jardin des Tuileries, Place de la Concorde and the Champs Elysees.

You need not go to the Tuileries to see some greenery though as the street overlooks a quiet little park called Square Montholon.

If you prefer not to walk, there are 2 metro stations, Cadet and Poissoniere, a couple of minutes from the flat. The are also buses you can catch on rue Lafayette or a taxi rank, if you are in a hurry.
