The Algarve Region

The coast-line of the Algarve stretches from Cabo Vicenze in the west to the estuary of the river Guadiana in the east. It is Portugal’s most southern part, bounded by the Atlantic ocean and named by the Moslems ‘Al Gharb”, which means “the West”. The Algarve Region is known to have more than 3000 hours of sunshine per year.

 

Carvoeiro Area

In the middle of the Algarve, you will find the colorful fishing village of Carvoeiro, built up around a half-moon shaped bay. Nowadays Carvoeiro is an attractive holiday village with a lovely beach, lots of cozy streets and a great variety of terraces and restaurants. It is there, approximately 100 meter from the village square and the beach, that our holiday home Casa das Conchas is located.

TRIPS IN AND AROUND CARVOEIRO……
Aqua-parks……
There are two big aqua-parks in the region. Both offer a complete day of fun: Slide and Splash is situated between Lagoa and Estombar; Aqualand is to the east along the N125, next to the roundabout of Alcantarilha. Both parks do have a (free) shuttle bus from Carvoeiro. A little bit further on the N125 (direction Guia) you will find Zoo-Marine, where you can even swim with the dolphins.
Beaches…
Carvoeiro is surrounded by lots of cosy beaches, not only the village-beach but also a bit to the west the beautiful "Paraiso-beach" and to the east the beaches of Centeanes, Carvalho and Benagil.
Boat-trips……
By far the best way to visit the caves is to make a trip direct from the beach of Carvoeiro or Benagil. But you can also consider to book a full day's cruise on one of the boats in Portimao, combined with a tasty BBQ lunch (sardines!) on one of the beaches. You can find information about these trips at the agents in the village or at the tourist office. …
Golf……
In and around Carvoeiro are 3 golf courses: one 9-hole course: Vale do Milho and two 18-holes (Pinta and Gramacho).
Walks and/or guided tours……
There are lots of nice walks in the surroundings of Carvoeiro: on the headlands, over the cliffs or along the beaches. To Algar Seco, Centeanes or Benagil. Or to Ferragudo!

* A trip to the old and very Moorish Silves.
* Or to Cape Vincent and Sagres.
* To Lagos or to the very nice kids-park "Krazy World".
* Or a shopping-afternoon in the Algarve Shopping Centre near Guia.

From the Rua do Povo do Burro you enter a small open hall with a stone, azulejos-covered, bench; here is the place to read your morning-paper or watch the neighbour's cat. Via the double (stable-type) door you enter directly the long stretched dining room with old paving tiles and double windows with a wonderful sea-view! You enter the living room by a wide stairway with fire-place and satellite TV; it is adjacent to the new open kitchen. The kitchen is brand new and offers all modern comfort: microwave and ceramic stove top, electric oven, large fridge and freezer and a huge counter of beautiful Portuguese granite! From the living room (and opposite the kitchen) you will enter a modern bedroom with its own bathroom. This bedroom has two large twin sized beds. There are two windows: one looking to the street and the other one to the patio. Through the living and a small doorway the old paving tiles leads you to the second bedroom and its bathroom. Here you will find a double bed. Via a separate door you will enter the patio. It is sheltered and gives good shade, although in midsummer you sill need the big parasol. There is a cosy and handy fixed barbeque, lots of plants and a separate laundry room. A stairway leads to the big roof terrace, specially fitted for a good sun bathe or a nice drink overlooking the village and the sea. The view is spectacular
