The famouse GR36 walking path which stretches hundreds of kilometers across the department and all the way to Spain passes right past our door. You don't have to go far to find a great walking or mountain biking trail. They are everywhere and are very well marked and signposted. The GR36 joins up with the GR653 - pilgrimage route 'chemin de St. Jacques de Compostelle', portrayed in the recent hollywood film 'The Way'. The area is popular for mountain biking and cycling. Our local town of Brassac hosted the French championship in mountain biking descents in May 2011

The Midi-Pyrenees Region
The largest region in France (larger than the Netherlands or Denmark) and the most diverse. It stretches from the Pyrenees mountains in the south west to the Central Massif in the East. Every department offers a change of landscape. While Toulouse (captial city of the region) is highly densely populated, the rest of the region has one of the lowest densities in western europe. A mainly agricultural economy ensure you will enjoy unspoilt countryside. Occitan & Gascon were the traditional languages but French is now dominant in the region.
It's climate is unique, influenced by the atlantic coast further west and the warmer climate of the Mediteranean further south. It enjoys 4 distinct seasons. Spring kicks in in March with warm days with lots of sunshine where the forests burst into life and is perfect for walking and mountain biking. Summer is very warm with temperatures climbing into the high 30's. Autumn is very nice with very warm days and is a wonderful time for hiking through the forests. Winter brings sunshine and snow, offering a refreshing change in scenery and cross country or nordic skiing in the 'Monts des Lacaune'.

Outstanding
The "Thyme converted pigeon loft" is a delightful place to stay. All that we needed was contained in the building and its layout and construction added to the romantic nature of its setting. Both Una and her husband were extremely welcoming and helpful. Altogether a wonderful and relaxing place to stay for a holiday. We have been holidaying (self-catering) in France almost every year since 1987 and this place ranks up at the top of the places where we have been. More...

"Una and EROL, thank you for a wonderful holiday.
We were treated wonderful from the time you picked us up at Carcassonne airport and you made us feel part of your lovely family.
The food ,scenery, weather, friendliness, were everything you would wish for on a holiday.
We certainly recommend it and will be back"
