The Poitou-Charentes/Vendee Region

The Charente-Maritime is blessed with a microclimate due to the Atlantic Gulfstream, making it the second sunniest region of France. It has sandy beaches superb rivers for taking a cruise and for fishing.

The nearby towns of Pons, Saintes and Cognac and the region around are full of items of historical interest - from pre-history and from Roman times, as well as many chateaux and forts constucted over the past 1,000 years. La Rochelle, Rochefort and St Emilion are other fascinating old towns within easy reach.

 

Pons Area

Limorlin is situated in the "Petite Champagne" area of vines grown for Cognac and and the aperitif Pineau des Charentes. Many Cognac houses in the area offer guided tours - with tasting of the products at the end of the visit, of course.

 

Getting There

> For those who wish to drive here, Limorlin is just 10 minutes from the A10 Paris-Bordeaux motorway (Junction 36 - Pons).

> Alternatively, we suggest a fly-drive (or rail-drive) holiday:
- Fly to La Rochelle or Bordeaux - Limorlin is 60 miles (by motorway) from both (1 hour).
- Fly to Angouleme - Limorlin is 45 miles (50 minutes).

> By Eurostar/TGV via Lille to Angouleme (40 miles, about 45 minutes).
