The cottage is of stone, exposed on most walls internally. The ground floor has an entrance, a cave and the main bathroom, which has a bath/shower, a washer/drier, a WC, a wash hand basin and a bidet. The first floor, which is a rear garden levl, is open plan, with kitchen area, dining and living area. There are two sofas which double as comfortable single beds. On this floor the beams are all exposed and give the room particular charm. A large free-standing wood burning stove provides heat.
There are two bedrooms on the second floor with a double bed in the front adn a double and single in the back room. There are lovely view of the vilage and bell tower rom the front. The front garden provides private parking and the rear garden has a vine covered patio, an open patio and a BBQ area. It is South facing, onto the wooded hill behind. The house is in a row of four houses and is quite private. The neighbours are great.

The Languedoc-Roussillon Region

Le Tech lies in the sub Pyranees at an elevation of 524 metres, which is below the snow line in winter, but the mid-winter nights can be quite cold. The summer temperatures are a very pleasant 25/30 celcius. Le Tech suffers little from strong winds and the evenings are balmy with few flies. In the region there are health baths in reasonable distance. There are wonderful forest walks in the whole area. Spain in about 20km drive, and skiing is about an hour and a half away in Setcases, Spain (a family type resort with slopes to black level). The scenery is spectacular and the area suffers little from tourists. Prats de Mollo, some 6kms away, is a fortified town with a citadel on the upper slopes. It was used by the Aragon family as a summer residence in the 16/17th centuries. It is a vibrant village.

Ceret, a town on the way up to Le Tech, has a great market on a Saturday morning. Prats has a small one on Friday morning. Amilie les Bains has famous health baths, as has La Preste, beyond Prats. The main areas of attraction, to my mind are the wonderful walks through the forests and the drives through the wil countryside. The Med sea is only an hour and a half away. as is Perpignan, where there is great shopping. Dali's museum in Figueras, Spain, is also a must. But there are many other places of interest in the locality.

Getting There

Fly to Gerona by Ryanair, and hire a car at the airport. Drive on the motorway AP7 to France, exit at "LE Boulou" and take the road to Ceret and Prats de Mollo, to Le Tech. Total time of journey about 2 hours. OR Fly to Carcassonne and take the motorway to Perpignon and Le Boulou. Exit at Le Boulou and proceed as above. (Journey time approx 2.5 hours)

The front garden is gravelled, and used as a parking space. The back garden has a sun sheltered patio with a table and chairs and an open patio and also a BBQ area. To the rear of the back garden is a meadow leading onto the forested hills. The front has a newly renovated tenis/basketball court, with a children's playground beside. On front is an open space leading onto the river Tech, across which is the village proper, perhaps 120metres away. There is a pub/restaurant, a small shop and a post office in the village. (The bread is daily delivered by van at approx 10.00!!) The village is built on the steep slopes of the opposite hill.

Rental Details

The house will be let on short term holiday lettings. Please bring your own linen and towelling as is normal in France. There is good fishing in the river for trout, but a permit must be got from th Marie. The tennis court is normally locked, but the house has a key and use can be made as desired.

The dining table is the refectory type with two long seating benches, suitable for eight or more people. The cooking facilities are a two ringed hob with a free standing oven unit, very suitable to holiday cooking. The cottage is easy to clean and maintain.
