The Aegean Islands Region

Rhodes

Evocative, mythical Rhodes, with its rich historical legacy, fertile plains, eastern coastline of sandy beaches and rugged mountainous interior, has something to interest and excite everyone. Strategically positioned at a maritime crossroads in the southern Mediterranean the island has been under the control of the Romans, Byzantines, Knights of St. John, Genoese, Venetians, Ottomans and the Italians. They have all left their architectural mark with churches, pillars, mosques and minarets dotted around the island, and the fascinating story of the Colossus, a mythical bronze statue, 100 feet high which guarded Mandraki harbour. Bathed in warmth by the sun god Helios, Rhodes is now a perfect holiday setting. With a hire car you can explore this large island at your own pace. It is also possible to join one of our excursions which take you to the ancient city of Kamiros and the Valley of the Butterflies, a boat trip to the lovely island of Symi, or a day trip to the resort of Marmaris in Turkey - a shopper's paradise.

Lindos & Pefkos

The stunning village of Lindos with its maze of tiny white washed sugar cubed houses and narrow winding cobbled streets, cascading down the hillside with its sandy beaches below and crowned by the awe inspiring acropolis. The village itself is blessed with wonderful greek restaurants, tavernas and bars and the locals are the friendliest people you could wish to meet.

The nightlife in the village is relaxed and friendly with a variety of bars to choose from. although the music stops at midnight in the bars, there are a couple of nightclubs to choose from for those who want to stay out until the early hours.

The nearest resort to Lindos is the popular resort of Pefkos, it's a family's paradise and has long white sandy beaches and has many taverna's and tourist shops at your disposal, it proves very popular with U.K. tourists.

There are a number of bars to choose from of which drinks and snacks are available all day and into the early hours. The resort is also in close proximity to the resorts of Lindos and Lardos and can be easily reached by taxi for about 6-8€.

Weather

The weather on the Island of Rhodes is consistently warm, Boasting over 320 days of sunshine per year. The Greek summer season runs from April through until October with the hottest months being July and August. The Island itself always appears green and lush despite the lack of rainfall.

The winter months are always a nice time to visit as the weather is generally warm and you get the chance to experience the real greece away from the bustle of the summer season. Lindos itself is renowned to be the hottest place in europe during the summer months so visiting during the winter months is a must for all those folk that don't like it to warm. April, May, September & October are the best months, as temperatures are usually only around 25c

Rhodes Area

Places To Go

SEVEN SPRINGS

A beautiful wooded area with natural springs and an ice cool lake. ideal for a picnic and relaxing walk, or a meal in the wonderful taverna whilst watching the peacocks and ducks.

ANCIENT KAMIROS

A vast excavation on the west coast of Rhodes and one of three Doric Greek cities that established the island of Rhodes. Kamiros had neither an Acropolis nor fortifications and it eventually fell into ruin and oblivion. It was not until 1929 that the Italians began to seriously excavate here and they turned up a most extensive series of both public and domestic structures, which include the public baths, a Temple to Athena, a Hellenistic house and a 6th Century BC cistern. A definite step back in time and well worth a guided tour.

TSAMBIKA MONASTERY

This is a very famous monastery situated just off the main road, on the way to the beautiful Tsambika beach. Set on the mountain top this small Byzantine building is surrounded by stone walls and offers spectacular views of the surrounding countryside. The climb is quite strenuous, so practical walking shoes are a must.

MONOLITHOS

Perched on top of a huge rock are the impressive ruins of Monolithos castle. As well as the castle, there is a small chapel which is still in use today. However, the real reason for making the trip to Monolithos is the breathtaking views. We can gaurantee some of the most fantastic photographs of your holiday will be taken from the castle walls overlooking the rest of the Dodecanese archipelago.

PRASSONISSI

The southern most tip of the island where the Aegean sea meets the Mediterranean sea. Windsurfers flock to show off their skills on the choppy Aegean, whilst the Mediterranean gently laps onto the beautiful stretch of golden sandy beach, which seperates the two seas.

VALLEY OF THE BUTTERFLIES

This is one of the special attractions on Rhodes, situated in the middle of the island, just 16 miles south of Rhodes Town. This lush wooded gorge with rustic bridges stretching over a rippling stream is a haven for thousands of butterflies. The butterflies start to appear in June and can usually be seen in the area until September. The fragile beauty of these butterflies and the tranquil setting will stay in your memory forever.

KALITHEA SPA

Just 6 miles south of Rhodes Town on the east coast lies the old Italian built spa. The attractive domed pavilions with pink marble pillows and moorish archways stand abandoned where once visitors flocked to bathe in its healing waters. Here you will find a lovely rocky cove lined with palm trees that is excellent for snorkeling. This is the only place on the island where scuba diving is allowed.

THE WATER PARK

The Water Park is the biggest fun water park in Europe and is the first to arrive on the island of Rhodes. The park is situated in the lively resort of Faliraki and is approximately 40 minutes drive from Villa Aegean View. The Water Park will offer remarkable and spectacular rides, unique splash pools, Wave pools and Water slides.

TURKEY

Sample another culture, another continent, the famous port and resort of Marmaris on the Turkish coast. Fly to this magical town by hydrofoil and lose yourself in the land of magic carpets and eternal mysteries. You'll have a quick but informative tour around the buzzing bazaar and then it's up to you to discover the many bargains just waiting to be snapped up....Gold, Leather, Sportswear and Jewellery. After all that bargaining how about a quick rub down in the Turkish baths! or stroll on the marina with its impressive millionaires yachts?
