The Channel Islands Region

The inhabited islands of the Channel Isles are Jersey, Guernsey, Alderney, Sark, Herm (the main islands); Jethou, Brecqhou (Brechou), and Lihou. All of these except Jersey are in the Bailiwick of Guernsey, but the Minquiers, Écréhous, Les Dirouilles and Les Pierres de Lecq (the Paternosters), uninhabited groups of islets, are part of the Bailiwick of Jersey. Burhou and the Casquets lie off Alderney.

Alderney Area

St Anne is the main town on the Channel Island of Alderney and sometimes described as the capital. It takes up a large part of the island. Traditionally the centre was in the middle of the island, but it has expanded towards Braye Harbour.
St Anne is also the name of the one and only parish on the island (Church of England)
The ancient parish church dedicated to the Virgin Mary was sited at the lower end of the High Street but fell into ruins and was replaced in the late 1580s by a chapel of St. Anne. In 1851 the old chapel was demolished, but the clock tower was retained.

Getting There

Most visitors will travel to Alderney from the UK via either Aurigny Airlines out of Southampton Airport, or Blue Islands out of Bournemouth International Airport [Blue Islands also operate a limited route from Brighton City (Shoreham) Airport]. However, for longer distances, Aurigny also fly from Bristol, Gatwick, Stansted and Manchester to Guernsey and then to Alderney - follow the links in the Travel section on our website - www.alderney-accommodation.com Any other airline that flies to Guernsey from further afield can be used, then transfer to Aurigny at Guernsey for onward travel to Alderney. Please note that Aurigny have a 15Kg max and Blue Islands a 20Kg max luggage allowance [we offer cot/high-chair/buggy hire because of this].

Alderney is the most northerly of the Channel Islands and a British crown dependency. It is part of the Bailiwick of Guernsey. It is 3 miles (5 km) long and 1.5 miles (2.5 km) wide. The area is 3 sq.m (8 sq.km), making it the third largest island of the Channel Islands. It is around 10 miles (16 km) to the west of La Hague in the Cotentin Peninsula, Normandy, in France, 20 miles (32 km) to the north-east of Guernsey and 60 miles (97 km) from the south coast of England. It is the closest of the Channel Islands to France as well as being the closest to England. It is separated from Cap de la Hague by the Race of Alderney (Le Raz).

Rental Details

All property rentals are priced per 7-day week, exclusive of laundry, electricity and 'phone calls. Unlike the UK, electricity has to be generated locally, thus unit costs are much higher, hence the separate charge.
All bed linen, towels, etc., are provided, except for beach towels, which you must bring with you. All is sent to the laundry for processing on the day you leave; we can also arrange for a change of linen during your stay, but only by prior request.
Bookings must be accompanied with the returnable deposit of £150, plus 25% of the rental. Electricity and laundry will be deducted prior to remitting the balance - normally within 14 days after returning home.
Normal change-over day is Saturday, but we can accommodate other days outside of High Season (July and August).
Please respect the Owner's requests regarding 'no smoking'.
All payments can be made by Debit or Credit card (there is a 2% surcharge for Credit card payment), or by cheque to Alderney Accommodation. The 75% balance of rental is due not less than 8 weeks prior to arrival. Late payment may attract a 5% administration charge.
