The Costa Del Sol Region

320 days of sunshine!
Estepona
Estepona is a pleasant seaside town with many shops and restaurants. There is a lovely promenade and a huge Carrefour supermarket if you are self catering. There is a market on a Wednesday with a good choice of local produce.
In the hills behind Estepona is a safari park called Selwo that comes highly recommended. Allow at least half a day.
Other family attractions include a combined water and theme park called Prado World with water slides, mini golf, rollerskating and other kids activities. Benalmadena
This is further east along the coast and is a good place for family attractions. There is a pleasure park called Tivoli which is entertaining rather than adrenaline fueled with a variety of rides and shows. Open afternoons only until late. Mijas aqua park is an outdoor waterpark Parque Acuatico Mijas with slides, rapid etc. Sea Life centre in Puerto Deportivo has lots of exotic Mediterranean underwater life including sharks, octopuses and eels.
Close by in Torremolinos there is another larger Aquapark with slides, rapids, twisters and a golf area.
Marbella
Marbella is arguably the Costa del Sol's most up market resort. It certainly still attracts the rich and famous and is a very chic beachside retreat for the wealthy international crowd. If you want to join them on the promenade, it is around 30 minutes from La Duquesa.
Puerto Banus
Puerto Banus is highly recommended for people watching at the yacht in the harbour and shopping in the El Corte Ingles department store or at some of the many other shops in the centre. The town buzzes at night with glitzy bars, restaurants and discos.
Seville
Seville is about 2 hours drive, mostly along new roads. It is the home of the flamenco. Worth visiting are the 15th century cathedral and the Giralda, a 12th century minaret from the Moorish era.
Granada
Granada is a 2 1/2 hour drive along motorways through the mountains. Ensure you have an up to date map. The city is vibrant and well worth a visit for itself but the pearl of the destination is the Alhambra.
The Sierra Nevada ski area is half an hour from Granada.
Tarifa
Tarifa is along the coast beyond Gibraltar. The wind is funnelled in from the Atlantic to the Straits of Gibraltar so the conditions are always windy. It is famous for surfing, windsurfing and kitesurfing. It is also a great place to go on whale and dolphin watching tours.
Gibraltar
Gibraltar is about 30 minutes southwest along the coastal motorway. There aren't many road signs from Spain so keep your eyes open. Access is from Algeciras. Remember to bring your passport!
In high season, the queues to leave can be long. it can be quicker to park your car on the Spanish side and walk across.
The rock is very impressive to see and there are sights of historical note as well as duty free shopping. As well as the apes, you can see dolphins on a boat trip into the bay or visit the botanical gardens.
Ceuta and Tangier
You will see many places along the road to buy ferry tickets to Ceuta and Tangier. Ceuta is a part of Spain in Africa (much like Gibraltar in Spain) and Tangier is in Morocco. There are cheap and regular car- and passenger-ferry links from Algeciras, Tarifa, Gibraltar, Almería and Málaga. First time visitors may prefer to take a tour from Spain as there can be a lot of 'guides' vying for your trade but it's fun to do on your own.

Duquesa Area

The complex is in a quiet area away from the seafront yet it is only 3 minutes from Monte de Duquesa plaza and another 7 from the marina and port area of Puerto de la Duquesa. There you will find numerous shops and bars. There are some great restaurants with cuisine from France, Italy, Thailand, China, India, Scandinavia, Great Britain and Ireland as well as Spain. There’s a shop to rent DVDs, fishing gear and bikes. It is about one hour's drive from Malaga airport and 30 minutes from Gibraltar.
The marina has more than 300 berths. There are no high rise hotels here to spoil the view. The blue flag beach stretches as far as Sabanillas and on to Estepona. On the other side, it winds around the coast to Sotogrande. The waterfront is closed to traffic making it very safe for children. In the summer there is a street market. There is a Sunday market at Sabanillas.
La Duquesa is well situated on the road network, 15km south west of Estepona on the N340 highway. There are plenty of beautiful places to visit in Andalucia. Granada is about 2 hours drive away and Seville 2.5 hours.

Karen, The Netherlands, August 2010

We had a really relaxing time at your apartment. Considering it was the middle of the school holidays, it didn't seem too busy and yet the girls were able to make friends. For once, we don't need a holiday to recover from the holiday!

Simon, Brigend, August 2010

We've just arrived back from a lovely 2 weeks at your apt. This is the 3rd place we've stayed in duquesa, the others being the Vizcaronda and Duq suites and this was by far our favourite, The views from your apt are breathtaking and the pools are lovely and so well maintained.
One thing I forgot to do which I remembered after leaving was to put the bongo drums back out, we put these in the cupboard on arrival so the children wouldnt play with them, so they'll be in the bedroom cupboard. Hopefully we will use your apt again in the near future.

Carole, Exeter, July 2010

We had a lovely holiday we loved Duquesa and also the apartment and complex. The views are fab and the weather was good to us too.
