The High Tatras Mountains Region

An unspoilt region of Slovakia, the High Tatra's is a National park where walking, ski-ing and other outdoor sports are plentiful.
Cold in winter and hot in summer this region is noted for its natural mountainous beauty and clear mountain lakes.

Poprad Area

Poprad is the main town of the High Tatra's. It is situated at the foot of the mountains affording stunning views to inhabitants and visitors.

It has a population of approx 55,000.
Mainline railway station as well as a electric railway which wends its way through many small villages on it's way to Strbske Pleso, the highest inhabited village in the Tatra's.
It has a large variety of shops, restaurants and cafe's as well as a musuem and cinema.
Aqua City, a geothermally heated resort is located here, within easy walking of the mainline train station.

Surrounded by natural forest there is a small stream bordering the property.
An outdoor seating area is just outside the door perfect for eating out and for barbecuing.
There are lots of other cottages and larger properties nearby, nearly all of which are occupied at weekends and for longer periods during the summer.
Popular with mushroom pickers and walkers.
The nearest village of Tatranska Strba is a 10 minute walk away and has a church, pizza house and small supermarket. There are also play areas for children and various sports facilities such as ice hockey pitch (winter) and tennis courts and an Astroturf football pitch in summer.
Located on the main road approx 5 mintues away is the Hotel Rysy as well as a couple of other smaller pensions whcih serve food and a small local tourist information office near the local railway station.
Approximately a 15 minute drive away on the main road to Poprad there is a large 24 hour TESCO hypermarket which sells just about everything you could want. There are also a number of small shops (kiosks) located within the same building.
The local train station Tatranska Liescovec is part of the cog railway system. It runs up to Strbske Pleso and down to the mainline station Strba. Tickets can be bought on board from the driver. The service is fairly regular ( approx once an hour) and very reliable.
From Strba station trains run to both Bratislava and Prague as well as Kosice in the east and onto the Ukraine and Russia.
From Strbske Pleso you can connect with the electric railway which runs through numerous small villages including Stary Smokovec and Tatranska Lomnica, both of which are geared towards tourists with large numbers of hotels and cafe's etc as well as stunning walks and other outdoor activities.

 

Rental Details

Parking at the house only available when there is no snow on the ground, although you can park near the railway station approx 150 metres away and then walk through the forest to the house.
There is no lighting so torches are a must!!!

The cottage is on two floors and comprises a kitchen, shower room, living room and two bedrooms. There is also a separate bedroom and shower room adjoining the property which is perfect for teeneagers or grand parents etc.( We only let this room in the summer).
There is a parking space adjacent to the cottage for one or two cars but this can only be reached during the warmer months. ( when there is no snow on the ground). The rest of the year there is parking available at the train station (approx 150metres away).
