The Lombardy/Italian Lakes Region

Lake Como is located in Lombardy near the swiss border , north of Milan. Lake Como is 50 km long and is one of the most beautiful in Europe and is situated in a basin at the foot of the Alps and surrounded by lovely valleys. The shores of Lake Como alternate between picturesque villages leaning out on the water, gravel-sandy, grass or rocky small beaches, pleasure harbours and water sport areas for windsurfing, sailing and water skiing.

Menaggio is a lively little town with narrow streets, good shops, restaurants etc. The weekly market is a must. On higher grounds overlooking Menaggio and the lake is the oldest golfcourse of Italy . Bellagio ( Villa Melzi), Tremezzo( villa Carlotta) , Lugano ( 40 km) ,m Como-town 40 km, Milan 80 km. and wonderful mountains in the nearby swiss alps in St. Moritz ( 90 km).

 

Lake Como Area

Coast/Beach
There are a selection of beaches locally. Pianello Del Lario's Laguna Beach which is 5 minutes by car, probably offers the best activity as it is a mecca for water-sport lovers particularly wind-surfing and sailing. Great to people watch from the beach front cafe or pizzeria if you are not the active type.

Golf
The famous and stunning Menaggio Golf Club is only 15 minutes from the apartment. This is an 18 hole par 70 course which really rewards those who can hit the fairway off the tee as it is built into the mountain so all airways are tree-lined. The views from many of the holes and the fresh air is incredible. There is also a really nice club-house as part of the club so it is also a nice place to go for a coffee or to people watch with many of the Milanese jet-set members here. There are many other course in the vicinity and they can be checked out at the tourist office in Menaggio or on-line.

Skiing
Madesimo is approx 1.25 hours drive. This is a really beautiful resort with great skiing which is mainly frequented by Italians. It is very organized and really inexpensive. St. Moritz is probably the most famous resort which is approx. 2 hours away. There are many other resorts within 1 2 hour drive and there is even a night-time ski-run close by.

Milan Malpensa - 1 hour
Milan Linate - 1.5 hours
Bergamo - 1.5 hours
The airports have rail links to Milan Central Station which has an underground rail system
Como town has a rail service from Milan. Como has a large ferry service to many places along the lake with Menaggio the nearest stop off 10 minutes away
There is a bus service from San Siro North to Colico or South to Como
Reasonably priced car hire is available at all the airports and is recommended.

There are numerous restaurants, bars, pizzerias, ice cream parlours, supermarkets in the vicinity of the apartment.
Numerous restaurants (mainly family-run) invite you to taste
delicious Italian food while enjoying amazing views of the surrounding landscape across the lake. You can be as active as you like or spend the time peacefully relaxing. Take a hiking trip into the wild valleys of the area or explore it by mountain bike. Stroll around colourful markets or take a boat trip around the lake with the whole family. Activities are too numerous to mention - almost all sports are catered for.

Bedroom 2 - Contemporary Italian designed double bed with luxury mattress, nightstand and chest of drawers with lime washed timber floor. This room has a lake view. There is also a travel cot available for child.

Upstairs bathroom - Tiled with toilet, sink and bidet and mirror.

Main bathroom - tiled with cool Italian travertine on walls and floor with high spec bathroom fittings with shower, sink, toilet and bidet. There is also a full length mirror.

Kitchen - Contemporary styled fully equipped kitchen specified by a qualified chef. Fridge/freezer, microwave, toaster, and a lot of extras.

Living Room - Designer sofa which converts to double bed TV, DVD. Black glass top extending dining table seats 6 people.
Cool Italian travertine floor.

Double doors onto private balcony with outdoor dining setting with incredible views.

Notes on accommodation
There is a gas heating system which may only be required in winter. There are Velux windows in the 2 bedrooms if required when it gets too hot.
