The Mayo Region
Pontoon
Healey’s Hotel has beautiful views over Lough Cullin – if you are lucky the swans will be in view – the pub does good food and children are welcome. Pontoon Bridge Hotel has great views over Lough Conn and serves food. There are also lots of quiet areas around Lough Conn where you can stop, picnic and paddle.
Fishing
The cottage is located very close to the River Moy, famous for excellent Salmon fishing
There is also good fishing on the nearby Lough Conn and Lough Cullin
Sea fishing is within 40 minutes drive
Golf
There are numerous 9 and 18 hole golf courses within easy reach
Beaches
There is a wide range of largely deserted, beautifully clean, fine golden sand beaches within 40 to 60 minutes drive, e.g. Killala, Lacken Strand, Eniscrone, Louisburgh
Museum
The Irish Museum of County life is 4 miles away, which is free and offers a fascinating insight in to the history of Ireland and its traditional crafts as well as a good restaurant and café and beautiful grounds for walking and a picnic
Achill Isle
Is around 60 minutes away, but well worth the drive. It offers a breathtaking landscape of rugged coastal scenery, ruined castles, ancient caves and vast open bog land together with numerous sandy beaches
Croagh Patrick
The holy mountain, named after St. Patrick is just outside Westport and is regularly climbed by Pilgrims some bare foot !
Foxford
(4 miles) is famous for its Woollen Mill, where you can purchase a range of hand crafted gifts, there is also a good choice of pubs, food and shops in the village.
The larger towns of Ballina and Castlebar (12 miles) offer all of the amenities that you may require.

There are many local Festivals throughout the year.
Straide Ballinacullia Area
Straide is the birhtplace of Michael Davitt, he was instrumental is the creation of the Land League and the return of land to the Irish peasant farmers. The Davitt Museum is loacted in the village of Straide. Additionally there are a couple of pubs in Straide
Balinacullia is a tiny hamlet two miles from Srtraide, there are now only three houses in the hamlet

Fly to knock airport with Ryanair, BMI Baby, XL Airways and hire a car, 20 minute drive to the cottage from the airport.
