For bedroom arrangement see floor plans (3 bedrooms are en-suite. The remaining 2 bedrooms in the tower share a facility with large shower ) The country lane to La Torricella is about 1 km from the main road and leads on a further km to the very well established paddock and riding school

The Umbria Region
Henry James described Umbria as the most beautiful garden in the world.-Lord Byron was equally captivated by its beauty, describing the falls at Marmore-- quote –“It comes like an eternity, as if to sweep down all things in its track----Charming the eye with dread—a matchless cataract—Horribly beautiful.”
With it’s incredible history, going back going to the Etruscan period and the papal wars followed by the renaissance, each little town was designed for survival with narrow streets, defence towers food storage, huge entrance gates and protective battlements.
Todi is recognised as one of the most beautiful examples of small towns in Italy, and you may wish to look no further. However here is some information covering the questions most frequently asked by visitors:
The very large cities of Rome, Florence and Siena are within reach, but best taken in on your way from the airports at Rome or Pisa—see map for distances.-- Train or bus services are recommended for a day trip.
Assisi—(Saint Francis and Giotto)—Perugia--- (University town--beautiful pedestrianised town centre for shopping –Jazz festival Sept) and Spoleto—(Internationally known for it’s festival of art & music--late June & July)-- all are within easy reach.
Some of the smaller towns you won’t have heard of are:- Bevagna,-- (selected for filming Romeo and Juliet in the 80’s).—Montefalco—(Beautiful walled town famous museum)—Montecastello di Vibio near Todi (small town on a hill claims to have the smallest theatre in the world).--- Tuoro, on the border of Lake Trasimeno—( Scene of the battle of Tuoro. 200 B.C. when Hannibal of Carthage defeated a Roman army of 15000 which was ambushed and driven into the lake. (Beautiful museum and Town centre). Alviano overlooking Lake Alviano—Visit the castle built as a residence for an Italian military adviser and later converted into a museum featuring army memorabile and the historic battles of Umbria. Arezzo.-- An old town a bit spoilt by new build as you approach but a visit is highly recommended for art lovers to see the frescoes of Piero della Francesca which adorn the walls of the Cathedral.
More information about the above from your guide books, or wait till you get here and refer to the hand-book provided by the owners.--- This hand-book also gives recommendations for :- local shopping & opening hours – best of several supermarkets outside the centre of Todi -- shopping outlets in Umbria for ladies fashion, Italian shoes etc., -- vineyards which are open to the public and finally restaurants far and near.

“Renaossance in Tuscand & Umbria"
TODI / UMBRIA. A dream of a walled town of Etruscan and Roman origins, which you can see fro miles around shimmering on a hillside. It’s my favourite along with Pienza. You can even park if you can keep your nerve through the one way system.
It’s Piazza del Popolo has been called the most perfect medieval square in Italy---though if you join the Passegiata (walkabout) on weekend evenings you will see it’s very much alive and kicking in the 21st century. So theatrical with it’s battlemented palaces and swash-buckling ornamental outside staircases, the square has not surprisingly featured in many period films. Photos of Rex Harrison in “The torment of Michaelangelo” and other stars adorn the town.s best restaurant (Ristorante Umbria)---try their zuppa Etrusca,- bean soup or cinghiale alla Cacciatora. Book your table early if you want the best view from the terrace.
Less daunting than the large flamboyant Renaissance Santa Maria della Consolazione, just below the town walls, or the echoing Gothic San Fortunato, which dominates the town. ---Todi’s pretty pink and white Romanesque Cathedral is smaller and simpler with a magnificent rose window.
Explore the labyrinth of alleys and steeply stepped and patterned streets, where many o f the tall houses, have been turned into weekend retreats for Romans (Orvieto is 25 miles away—Spoleto £2 miles
SHOPPING—There are 4 super markets – 5 banks – 4 chemists and 4 petrol stations conveniently located outside the walled city. The Owners provide a handbook with map showing where all these are situated plus recommendations for restaurants in the town and nearby
Getting There
FROM THE AIRPORTS AT ROME. From Fiumicino take the direction for Roma until you reach the GRA (equivalent to the M25 around London) - and go clockwise – i.e. pass the sign for Napoli and take the sign immediately after this for Firenze – continue until exit 10 which is for the A1 north to Firenze. From Ciampino airport you will join the GRA at exit 23 and turn right going anti-clockwise until you reach the exit 10 for Firenze- You will come to the toll gates after about 8 kms take one of the entry points for cash payment. . Take the Exit at ORTE which is only about 20-25 minutes from Roma Nord do not take the exit at Orvieto which looks closer to TODI but is a much slower road . c At Orte you will need to pay about 5 € at the cash point .You then take the E45 towards Terni --After the third tunnel which is very long going downhill—take the road sign-posted Perugia about 5 kms after the tunnel- Todi is 32 kms going North from this turning.—You then take the exit sign for TODI-SAN DAMIANO.- which takes you up a steep hill to the Town.
FROM THE NORTH. You may be touring or have taken the airport to Pisa or Milano. Find the A1 motorway on your map coming down towards Roma and take the exit at Val di Ciana for Perugia -Pay the toll fee at the exit and continue towards Perugia you will pass through several tunnels which by-pass the city on the South side. After the last tunnel, going down-hill take the exit for Roma which takes you on to the E45 going South.. After 34 kms you will see the exit sign TODI—ORVIETO--- Do not take this continue to the next exit for TODI (another 2 kms) and take the exit Todi San Damiano.
