The Lanzarote Region

Lanzarote boasts all year round sunshine with a pleasant breeze . The island lies approximately 100 kms from the coast of Africa and on the same line of latitude as Orlando ,Florida. The island is just over 800 sq.kms with beautiful beaches and dramatic volcanic landscapes. A trip to Timanfaya is a must to see breathtaking views of the main volcanoes on the island. The Cactus Gardens and Jameos del Agua with Mirador del Rio in the north of the island are also well worth a visit. El Golfo and Los Hervideros in the south of the island would be the main tourist attractions in that area. The pace of life is laid back and driving around the island is very relaxing.

 

Puerto del Carmen Area

Puerto del Carmen has something for everyone. The new Biosfera shopping centre has all the major store names and is located at the top of the Old Town. The street leads down to the harbour with excellent restaurants offering local and european food. The harbour itself is being extended and refurbished and is surrounded by excellent fish restaurants.
Heading back down the Avenida de las Playas the street meanders along the coast and the new street scape offers the visitor a range of shops and restaurants with food of a high calibre and very reasonably priced. The tourist office on the beach side lets you know all the current attractions and fiestas. The only casino on the island for those inclined is another 100mts down the Avenida. Seating is available along the Avenida for the short rests during your stroll along the front.
A new Golf Course has opened on the road to Tias ,just about a kilometre from Puerto del Carmen and coupled with the older course in Costa Teguise they offer a great challenge to any golfer. The all year round sunshine provides the ideal backdrop to any sporting activity - be it golf, fishing or windsurfing. Sailing and catamaran trips are also very popular.

 

Getting There

Aer Lingus are flying directly with three flights per week from Dublin ,Cork and Belfast . Their web-site (aerlingus.com) is very customer friendly and the prices are very competitive when booked in advance. The average price of a taxi to Puerto del Carmen is approximately € 12.00. Car hire is available at the airport with prices approximately € 140.00 per week or less. Transfer time to the resort around 15 minutes.
From October 29th - Ryanair will start a winter service to Lanzarote at very competitive prices.
