The Ponta Grande Resort offers the perfect holiday. The luxury townhouse is set in beautifully landscaped gardens, with swimming pool, children's pool, tennis court and a safe children's play garden. There is an excellent Italian restaurant with very reasonabbly priced menu, and a charming bar which has frequent entertainment in high season. Wireless broadband internet service is available at the reception area. The resort is very safe with electronic gates for guest access, and there is 24 hour security. The local beach of Sao Rafael is a 5 minute walk, and it won 'Best Beach in Portugal' award in 2008. The nearby cliff walk leads to hidden coves and private beaches, has a colourful array of flowers in Spring, and provides spectacular views of the unique coastline. Albufeira is a ten minute drive away and has excellent shopping and good value restaurants. The nearby picturesque marina offers water sports and cruises. The nearest golf course of Salgados is a 5 minute drive. The historic town of Silves, which is the old Moorish Capital of the Algarve, is a 30 minute drive.

The Algarve Region
Nestled in southern Portugal is the majestic paradise of Algarve, praised for its unparalleled climate, picturesque beaches, and spectacular cliffs. Accenting the southern coastal beaches are fig trees, almond trees, and orange grows; a tribute to the area’s fertile climate. Close by is the old town of Albufeira with quaint cobbled streets full of music and dance performers. Carvoeiro and Alvor are nearby lively fishing villages that have preserved their historical charm. Other notable areas include Alte, famous for its 16th century church and Lagos, from where the Portuguese discoverers of the 15th Century set out. The idyllic temperatures make Algarve ideal for playing golf and other sports. And for those concerned gastronomes, Algarve offers high quality regional cuisine , specialising in fresh seafood.
Sao-Rafael Area
Just down the road is Sao Rafael beach, recipient of the ‘Best Beach in Portugal 2008’ award, only a mere five minutes from the villa.The beach has a fantastic restaurant - where you can dine watching the moon rise over the ocean and listen to the waves crashing on the beach. From Sao Rafael there is a wonderful cliff walk that winds its way along the picturesque coastline for several kilometers and takes through small private beaches untouched by the tourist crowd. The nearby Albufeira Marina offers cruises, yachting, fishing trips, water skiing, and paragliding for those in need of some excitement and adventure. And for a fun-filled family day, hop in the car for a mere 30 minute ride to water parks like Slide & Splash and Zoomarine, where you can swim with dolphins.
Getting There
Fly with Ryanair to Faro from Dublin or Shannon or choose Aer Lingus to fly from Dublin, Cork and Belfast to Faro.

The villa has a sun terrace with patio dining table & chairs compleate with parasol. There is also a small walled private area outdoors with a clothes line. There is ample parking beside the villa.
The resort has an excellent swimmimg pool and children's pool with luxurious sunbeds and parasols. There is a tennis court, crazy golf and safe children's playground set in immaculately landscaped gardens which also include life size chess and draughts boards! The grounds are very safe, with guests using electronic keys to open access gates, with night security in operation also.
There is an excellent restaurant, bar and reception area which has wireless broadband internet available.
For younder guests there is a games room complete with pool, fuzz ball and video games. There is a small supermarket, deli an bakery within a 3 minute walk.

The spacious lounge has a marble fireplace and two large sofas (beds). The TV has cable channels. A huge picture window with sliding doors leads to the sun terrace. There is a dining table, six chairs and sideboard. The fully fitted kitchen has electric oven and hob, extractor unit, fridge, microwave, kettle, toaster. The master bedroom has a wonderful uninterrupted view across the countryside, and in the evening the sunsets over the hills are in full view. Bedroom 2 is on the mezzanine level and has twin beds. There are large fitted wardrobes, complete with safe. Main bathroom upstairs has bath, shower, wc, bidet, basin, large vanity unity and mirrored wall. Shower room on the ground floor has shower, wc, basin set in vanity unit and mirror. There is a store room for storing suitcases, golf clubs, deckchairs, baby buggies, surfboards, parasols and other bulky items. Bedlinen and towels are included and are changed weekly.

Guest Book
My family has been returning to the Ponta Grande for several years. We love the resort, and have always had a fantastic holiday. Our children enjoy it so much, and it was especially suitable for them when they were younger. Each year we discover more about the locality, and what it has to offer. Last summer the highlight was paragliding which we organised at the marina in Albufeira.
