The Wexford Region

Wexford located in the Sunny southeast of Ireland famous for its picturesque towns, wonderful food and great beaches is an ideal destination for family holidays or a relaxing 'get away from it all' holiday and there is a huge variety of places of interest when staying at Warren Farm.

Wexford has a rich and varied history, attracting many settlers and absorbing different cultures. The countryside has gently rolling hills, a rich patchwork of cultivated farmland, dotted with medieval castles and great houses. Its extensive coastline consists varies from long sandy beaches to the east with a more rocky coastline with pretty harbours and sandy coves to the south. Hook Head Lighthouse on the peninsula of the same name has a visitor facility and guided tours of this the oldest lighthouse in Europe from where whales can sometimes be seen.

Our strong Norman heritage is very evident in the martello towers, and there are also many abbeys and castles to visit including Dunbrody Abbey, Tintern Abbey, Ballyhack Castle and Jerpoint Abbey.

The Blackstairs mountains north of New Ross are very popular for walking and hang gliding, and there are many lovely drives from Warren Farm which take in the mountains and pretty river valleys with charming villages to pause for a snack. The marked coastal path is also popular with walkers.

New Ross Area

The extensive JFK Park/Arboretum has shrubs and trees from all over the world and visitors center with interesting audio visual presentations, and from the highest point in the park you can see the coastline and 5 counties.

The farm is located on the road between JFK Park and JFK Ancestral Home where the John F. Kennedy's great-grandfather was born, so this is Kennedy country and there is an interesting museum to visit at JFK Homestead down the road! The Irish National Heritage Park near Wexford is an exciting heritage trail introducing visitors to ring forts, crannogs, viking houses, monastic settlements, a celtic farm with traditional breeds of animals.

Local activities include horse riding, golf, Par 3, walking, water sports, visits to Dunbrody & Tintern Abbeys and local gardens and whale watching trips off Hook Head. Amongst the local festivities are the New Ross Dunbrody Festival in July and Piano Festival in September and the Steam & Vintage Rally in Whitechurch in August.
