The Costa Del Sol Region

The Costa del Sol comprises the coastal towns and communities in the Málaga province, along the Mediterranean coastline. The name translates as "Sunny Coast" in English. In the south of Spain, in the autonomous community of Andalusia, 'Mountains of Light' named by Moorish colonists. Formerly a series of quiet fishing settlements, the region has been completely transformed in the latter part of the 20th century into a tourist destination of world renown, with a near-continuous urban settlements and resorts running along the length of the coastline.

' De Costa' includes the towns of Málaga, Torremolinos, Benalmádena, Fuengirola, Mijas, Marbella, San Pedro de Alcántara, Vélez-Málaga, Nerja, Torrox, Puerto Banús and Estepona.

Settlement in the region dates back to the Bronze Age, and it has been colonised by many cultures such as the Phoenicians, Carthaginians, Romans, Vandals, Visigoths and Moors, before the Reconquista the territory by Spanish King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella.

The adaption of post-war jet-engines for civilian aircraft meant access by Northern Europeans and forever changed the region for international tourism in the 1950s. Since then Costa del Sol has been patronised by foreign tourists for its beaches and local cuisines and culture

In recent years the Costa Del Sol has become known as the 'Costa Del Golf'' due to the vast amount of high quality golf courses in the area. The region is seeing an increasing number of new complexes being developed , catering for sports activists.

 

Nerja Area

If you are looking for a Spanish holiday that captures the very essence of Spain then look no further than Nerja, often referred to as the Jewel of the Costa del Sol.
The beautiful town of Nerja a short distance from Burriana beach and the charming cobbled streets of Nerja old town.
Flanked by a dramatic mountain range, Sierra Almijara, to the east, the town has, fortunately, managed to avoid being blighted by the concrete high-rise scenario which has been the inevitable result of the tourist boom in some of the coastal resorts. The old quarter of the town is still virtually unchanged with narrow, winding streets, whitewashed houses with wrought iron terraces overflowing with geraniums. The heart of Nerja is its spectacular Balcón de Europa, the "Balcony of Europe", a magnificent promenade along the edge of a towering cliff, once the site of the great Moorish castle, with sweeping panoramic views of the Mediterranean and the small coves and beaches below, against an awesome backdrop of hazy blue mountains.
There are plenty of restaurants and cafes here to choose from, and you can hire a horse-drawn carriage to explore the most romantic corner of the town.
Nerja's most spectacular attraction is undoubtedly its fascinating caves, located just three kilometres from the centre of town. They include archaeological treasures such as paintings over 20,000 years old and other pre-historic remains. One of the enormous natural caverns has been transformed into a concert hall, where many performances are staged during the summer.
The famous Burriana Beach with all water sports, restaurants and bars is seven minutes walk from our private path while the shops and nightlife of Nerja town are also within easy walking distance for the active or a five minute drive.
