The Algarve Region

The Eastern Algarve is considered to be the most unspoilt and picturesque part in the Algarve. The town of Tavira, only about ten minutes by car from Cabanas is known as the most beautiful town in the Algarve and recommended for its historical past, Roman architecture, 38 historic churches and its four beautiful bridges spanning the Gilão River which divides the town and allows for spectacular riverside views of the medieval town and river life. Numerous cafes and restaurants line the river, public gardens and quiet squares offering an array of traditional patisseries and fresh fish restaurants. The castle walls border the medieval centre of the town, from where you can enjoy a fantastic view of the rooftops of the town leading to the estuary and out into the Atlantic. Tavira also has a fabulous daily market where you can buy fish straight off the boats and fruit and vegetables from the Algarve local farmers.
The Spanish border is only 30 minutes drive from Cabanas so you may wish to take a day trip to Spain whilst you are there!. The magnificent city of Seville is only a two and a half-hour drive making for an interesting day trip or a more leisurely overnight stay.
The Algarve’s golf courses, 22 in total (with latest Monte Rei), are among the finest in Europe. This is Europe’s foremost winter golfing destination. At last count there were 19 golf complexes, 26 separate courses and 423 widely differing holes to play along the south coast of the Algarve, with another two complexes and 45 holes within easy driving distance just over the Spanish border.
Golf is an all-year-round sport. The main season is from October to May. Look out for special deals. Many of the courses offer multiple green fees at discount prices for limited periods. The promotional organisation Algarve Golf sells a passport which gives a special deal on five rounds of 18 hole play. More information about golf can be provided under request.

 

Cabanas de Tavira Area

Magnificent beaches are within easy reach being Cabanas beach the nearest . The beach is separated by an arm of the Ria Formosa and you have to get a boat to cross it. These are supplied by local fisherman and are not expensive. The small trip is very relaxing and pleasant.
On the sand bank stands the fort of São João da Barra, built to a polygonal design in the 17th/18th centuries.
A list of excellent long sandy beaches will be provided at arrival.

 

Getting There

Fly to Faro with Ryanair, Aer Arann or Aer Lingus from Dublin, Cork, Shannnon, Galway, Waterford. Lots of flights available form the UK with BMI baby or BA, Ryanair, Monarch, Easyjet, TAP-Air Portugal. Also accesible from Lisbon airport - 3 hours drive.

Taxis available at the airport - around 40 Euros to the villa
Depending on how you get to the Algarve you will be provided with driving directions to drive to the property.
