Paraza has 2 restaurants, post office, general store, bar, boucherie and a weekly market. The nearby town of Lezignan also hosts a great weekly market , supermarkets, banks etc. Around Paraza is perfect for walking ,cycling,horse riding ,rock climbing and only 20mins away you can hire canoes for the day. The Pyrenees offer hiking, caving and trekking in the summer or ski-ing in the winter. With this area also famous for it's Cathar castles and history , great wine and local food and not forgetting its great climate, there is something for everyone .
Aude Area
Paraza is found 35 minutes from the Medieval city of Carcassonne and 30 minutes from the golden mediterranean beaches. It benefits from the glorious sunny climate of the south of France which make this such a famous wine producing region. The charming historic village of Paraza is right on the banks of the UNESCO protected Canal du Midi and it s founder MR Paul Riquet actually stayed in the Chateau of Paraza and designed the terraces down to the Canal. Bellevue enjoys spectacular views across the Aude plain to the Pyrenees and the sacred mountain Canigou from the terrace. There is also a peek of the Canal where you get to see the boats and barges passing by. The Canal also is a wonderful place to walk , picnic and cycle along. For those that enjoy watersports only 15 mins away is Lac Jouarres a great place to windsurf, sail, swim,cycle,walk , picnic or just simply lie down with a good book and sunbathe. There's also a restaurant and bar for refreshments in a relaxing setting.
