The Algarve Region

Year after the year the Algarve is voted among the top holiday destinations in Europe for people from across the world. In particular, people from northern Europe love it for its sub-tropical climate that provides over 300 days of warm sunshine every year. Add to the sunshine a safe and very beautiful coastline of seemingly endless beaches and you have the perfect recipe for relaxation. The fact that it is only a little over two hours flight time away is especially appealing.

For many who return each year the sunshine and beaches are only part of the attraction. Much of this region has maintained it’s distinctive and unspoilt charm, and a visit to the quiet villages in the region will provide abiding memories of the narrow cobbled streets and the friendliness of the locals. There are many notable places of interest to visit and to relax in while enjoying the local food specialities. Within one hours driving you can go to ‘the end of the earth’! ( as the westernmost point was known to the ancient mariners) Going east you can be in Spain, and north will take you into the beautiful Monchique mountains. The drive to Monchique is not to be missed and, as you drive toward the summit, the aroma from the eucalyptus trees will clear even the ‘stuffiest’ head. Stop off at some of the craft shops where locally produced ceramics, leather, and cork products are on sale at very reasonable prices.

Many tour operators provide guided excursions daily to these regions and this is a great way to discover more about local heritage and customs.

Your family will hugely enjoy one of the Safari day trips, which is yet another way to explore the hidden Algarve. These run on a daily basis throughout the summer, providing a pick-up and drop-off service close to your apartment.

Guia is ideally situated to avail of the many wonderful boat trips that operate from Albufeira, only 8 mins drive away. A little further away Carvoeiro and Portimao offer still more choices for sea trips.

Guia is typical of the many small villages of the region. The architecture is distinctly Portuguese with narrow cobbled streets and several restaurants and bars offering a wide choice of cuisine and especially chicken piri-piri for which the town is rightly famous. All amenities are within 5 mins walk of the apartment including banks, bakeries, supermarket, and lovely town market. There is a newsagent with internet access and dvd rental facilities. It is located approx 8 mins drive inland from Albufeira and approx 30-40 minutes from Faro airport.

While Guia is famous for its "Chicken piri-piri", locally caught seafood, and a selection of traditional Algarvian dishes as well as other international favourites are also available.

All nearby beaches are well served with adjacent restaurants / bars, the nearest beach, Praia de Gale, is less than 7 minutes by car or bus and offers three restaurants overlooking the sea serving a selection of local dishes and snacks. All have restaurants, sunbeds and toilet facilities, plus water sports in high season.

Algarve Shopping is one of the best Shopping Centres the Algarve has to offer and is less 3 minutes drive from Edificio Ponte Romana , with over 100 shops, and a huge supermarket there (great for your first big shop!) Not just shops though: there are 30 restaurants, a 9 screen cinema, and a Bowling centre. With so much to see and do you could quite easily spend a day here!

For the golfers less then 10 minutes away is the 18 hole links course at Salgados and also the new Oceanico Amendoeira golf complex featuring two championship golf courses, the Nick Faldo, and Christy O’Connor Jnr., along with an eighteen hole par 3 course and a golfing academy. There are many others within a 20-30 minute drive.

Zoomarine is one of the Algarve's biggest attractions making a great day out with plenty to do for all the family and is a 2 min drive or 10 minute walk from the Apartment. It offers some spectacular shows including, Dolphins shows, a pantomime performed by seals and sea lions, as well as tropical bird show and birds of prey. There are even family fairground rides including, a big wheel with fantastic views looking over the whole park, a mini roller-coaster and more. And if you've ever wished you could swim with dolphins, then you can have that wonderful experience here as there is also an opportunity to swim with the dolphins in the dolphin interaction area. Zoomarine is open all year round !

The Adega do Cantor ( Sir Cliff Richards) vineyard is situated at Guia, a few kilometres northwest of Albufeira in the middle of the Algarve and welcomes visitors to pop in any time for a tasting. Their cellar door shop sells the full range of Vida Nova wines as well as a variety of wine merchandise and souvenirs. Experience an exclusive tour of the vineyards and winery at Quinta do Miradouro and enjoy a tasting of Sir Cliff Richard's Vida Nova, which is vinified, matured and bottled on the estate.

Restaurants and shops are within walking distance, but the beach is driving distance. In addition, there is so much wonderful country side and beautiful beaches to explore here in the Algarve that we recommend car hire to make the most of your holiday !

The property's weekend rates apply to: Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights

Prices shown are for the property per week in UK Pounds. We can accept payments by cheque or bank transfer in GBP or Euros.

A 20% non-refundable deposit is required to confirm the reservation, with the balance paid 6 weeks before your date of arrival.

A refundable damage deposit of 200 Euros or £150 required with the final balance and will be refunded one week of your departure date.

Air Conditioning is an additional charge of £100 per week.

Cot (€10 per week) and Highchair (€15 per week) can be arranged.

Payments can be made by cheque or bank transfer.

Food Packs on arrival can be requested at an extra cost.
