The Tuscany Region
Tuscany harbours the classic landscapes of Italy, familiar from Renaissance paintings and TV travel shows alike, and its medieval hill-towns, rows of slender cypress trees, vineyards and olive groves, and artfully sited villas and farmhouses have long held an irresistible attraction.
Tuscany is the essence of Italy in many ways. The national language evolved from the Tuscan dialect, a supremacy ensured by Dante, Petrarch and Boccaccio. But what makes this area pivotal to the culture of Italy and all of Europe is the Renaissance (this name, "rebirth" of the arts, was coined by Tuscan Giorgio Vasari in the sixteenth century) which fostered painting, sculpture and architecture that comprise an intrinsic part of a Tuscan tour. Florence was the most active centre of the Renaissance, flourishing principally through the all-powerful patronage of the Medici dynasty. Every eminent artistic figure from Giotto onwards – Masaccio, Brunelleschi, Alberti, Donatello, Botticelli, Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo – is represented here, in an unrivalled gathering of churches, galleries and museums.
Siena is one of the great medieval cities of Europe, almost perfectly preserved, and with superb works of art in its religious and secular buildings. Its beautiful Campo – the central, scallop-shaped market square – is the scene, too, of Tuscany's one unmissable festival, the Palio. Other major cities, Pisa and Lucca, provide convenient entry points to the region, either by air (via Pisa's airport) or along the coastal rail route from Genoa.
Tucked away to the west and south of Siena are dozens of small hill-towns that epitomize the region. San Gimignano is the best-known, and is worth visiting as much for its spectacular array of frescoes as for its much-photographed bristle of medieval tower-houses. Montepulciano, Pienza and Cortona are each superbly located and dripping with atmosphere, but the best candidates for a Tuscan hill-town escape are little-mentioned places such as Volterra, Massa Maríttima or Pitigliano, in each of which tourism has yet to undermine local character.
Tuscany's climate is one of the most hospitable in the world year-round.
The nicest time to visit, in terms of the weather and lack of crowds, is April to late June, when the weather is fantastic - it's not too hot, it's not too rainy and there won't be as many other travelers. Or if you'd like to wander around the towns and cities in the brisk fall with the colourful foliage, the autumn months will be ideal for your trip. The landscape is beautiful at this time, so that's an added bonus. If you're planning to swim, however, hot and dry summer months of July and August will be perfect for you.
Winter months are usually the least busy. It can get cold, but you can still enjoy a trip here during this time.
Fucecchio Area
We are located in an ideal place. Quiet yet just “a stone’s throw” from Tuscany’s most popular tourist attractions to enjoy its art, culture, architecture, music, design, scenery, food and wine.
In less than one hour you can be on the golden beach in Versilia (Viareggio, Marina di Pietrasanta and posh Forte dei Marmi), in Florence, on the leaning tower in Pisa, on the ancient walls of Lucca, playing golf, riding a horse, in Pistoia at the zoo with your children or at Pinocchio's in Collodi! Fanatic motorbikers will appreciate the Piaggio Museum, in Pontedera, hosting memorabilia from Gilera, Piaggio and Vespa collections!
Maps of different trails suitable for birdwatchers and nature enthusiasts available. You can go on foot (nordic walking), by bike, even by car.
Thankfully, the local area is not a mass tourist destination (yet). In most of the restaurants in the immediate surroundings it is unlikely that you might find a menu in English, so you are advised to carry a phrase book unless you speak Italian. People in general will be friendly and try to help even if you don't speak a common language.

Guest Book
First of all I would like to thank Tiziana for her hospitality. She is so helpful in each areas. The accommodation is simply perfect. The location of the property is wonderful. A lovely surrounding in the smooth hills of Tuscany. Everything is made new and tastefully furnished. Also there are all necessary contents (Kitchen etc.) in the apartment. It's a huge property with a fantastic swimming-pool, deck-chairs, sunshade and all things for a nice day at the pool. You can also walk around and admire the surrounding. For the car there is a enough parking place. And all that is fenced with an electrical gate for entrance and exit. We love it very much and we will come back!!! Thanks Tiziana and greetings from Austria
We had a marvellous wonderful, wonderful(!) week at La Scuola. Tiziana welcomed us very heartly and friendly so that we just felt at home. We were given lots of useful information about restaurants, cities and the weather forcast. The appartments were perfectly clean and lovely furnished. Both in the inside and in the garden are enough tabels and chairs. Our kids loved the pool and big Garden. There are so many small plots to relax. Twice we had a great barbecue party. Our baby was given a slide and a baby table.
We had a wonderful view directy from the breakfast table in the front Garden. Fucecchio is a nice town with lots of great bars and restaurants.
Thank you for a gorgeous week dear Tiziana. We will surely come back. Lots of greetings from cold Germany.
We were so pleased with La Scuola we invited two wonderful Australian friends we met on the trip to come there as well. Tiziana Fierli is a wonderful and thoughtful hostess, the apartment was new, very clean and well appointed. With maps provided by Tiziana we were able to get all around Tuscany, find supermarkets, and generally have a wonderful time. Recommend it highly.
