The Sligo Region

County Sligo's beautiful scenery has a charm to be found nowhere else in Ireland. The lakes of Sligo, it's rivers and mountains, inspired the poet WB Yeats, who made it his home. The neolithic cairns of Carrowkeel are only a half an hour's drive from the village. A 45 minute drive will take you to the neolithic cairns of Carrowmore, Knocknarea mountain with Queen Maebh's tomb, the beaches of Strandhill and Rosses Point and the town of Sligo. Just outside Sligo town is the lovely Lough Gill with it's Isle of Inisfree. Lough Arrow, Lough Gara and Lough Key are also nearby.

 

Gurteen Area

Gurteen is the centre of a thriving traditional music scene in the area. The Coleman Centre, less than a minute's walk from the house, holds traditional music nights every week. Some pubs in the village have traditional music sessions at the weekend. Pub grub is available in the village. Fishing is a popular sport in the area at Lough Gara (5 kilometres) and Lough Key (20 Kilometres).
Kesh Mountain, with it's historic caves and Carrowkeel neolithic cemetary are a 15 kilometre drive.

 

Getting There

Gurteen is in south county Sligo close to the Roscommon and Mayo borders. Knock airport is approximately 30 kilometres away and served by BMI Baby, Ryanair Easyjet and Aer Arann Express with flights from many cities in the UK. There are several car hire firms at the airport including Argus, National, Europcar and Budget. Gurteen is 14 kilometres from Boyle, county Roscommon, on the Boyle- Ballina road. it is 28 kilometres from Carrick-on-Shannon and 10 kilometres from Ballymote.

There is garden furniture in the back garden with a portable barbeque available to use. The small well-maintained front garden looks out on to the main street of Gurteen.

 

Rental Details

No smoking allowed in the house. Rental periods very flexible. Refundable €150 damages deposit required when making final payment. Non-refundable 20% deposit required to secure booking.

This well-kept holiday home has a nice well-equipped kitchen with big pine table and a dresser. There is a two seater sofa in the kitchen and a very comfortable three seater leather couch with two armchairs in the sitting room. The sitting room has an open fireplace which is very cosy in winter. There is a big bathroom upstairs with an electric shower unit and a bath. The master bedroom has a king size bed and there are two other bedrooms, one a double and the other a twin.
