The Algarve Region

Tavira, the most exquisite town on the south coast and one of the loveliest in Portugal is worth more then one visit. The medieval arcades, graceful cloisters and ancient walls of Tavira´s mansions, castle, churches and monasteries frame handsome piazzas. Coming across the seven arched roman bridge you may wonder how Tavira has kept its back firmly against the tide of modern development.
If ever the lure of the ocean dulls you will find that the wooded hills of the serra behind Tavira with its picturesque little villages offer beautiful and unspoiled terrain for exploring and walking. Small restaurants invite to get to know the typical dishes of the region and its excellent wines.
Discover the Eastern Algarve with its all year round warm climate where temperatures even in winter never drop below 14 C and most days you will be able to go for long walks or to sunbathe on one of the long sandy beaches. In summer however the temperature may reach 28 - 30 C, in July and August even higher and you will enjoy the clean water of the Atlantic in Europe’s unique natural reserve, Ria Formosa.

 

Tavira Area

Tavira is a unique experience, mainly because of all its Historical background and untouched archaeologic traces managed to keep it one of the most characteristic cities in representing the Algarve region.

The access to Tavira Island is provided by boats from Quatro Águas peer in Tavira. The parking areas are fairly large and organised. The beach has basic support facilities, like restaurants and toilets, and is supervised during the bathing season. This beach often holds the blue flag, proof of its environmental quality and superiority.

Me and my wife Cornelia had a wonderful time in "O Serro". The little house is very clean, nice decorated and has everything you need for a pleasant stay. It's placed in the middle of the well treated garden and has a terrace from which you can look down to the swimming pool. The whole place is very quiet, but we enjoyed waking up with the singing birds. There is a nice little family run restaurant in walking distance. We were surprised to be able to have breakfast on the terrace even in December. Thank you once again for the nice bottle of wine and your hospitality. We hope to be back soon! Un abbraccio
