The Mayo Region

Westport, awarded Ireland's Tidiest Town in 2001, 2006 & 2008. One of the few planned towns in Ireland, was designed in the 18th century by James Wyatt, commissioned by Lord Sligo of Westport house, as a place for his workers and tenants to live.

 

Westport Area

The charming town of Westport on the shores of Clew Bay, an inlet of the Atlantic Ocean, has many outstanding features is the tree-lined, flower decorated boulevard known as The Mall with stone bridges over the Carrowbeg river. The famous
Croagh Patrick, a place of pilgrimage for thousands each year is a striking backdrop to the town. Westport House & Adventure Park is open during the summer months.
An excellent 18 hole Championship Golf Course is located off the Newport Road. Numerous EU blue flag beaches within
12 km. Sea & fresh water angling, sailing, yachting, hill walking & cycle paths. Swimming pools & leisure centres, forest walks, guided walks, shopping, country markets and crafts are amongst the huge range of activities in and around Westport.
Clay pidgeon shooting, paintballing, scuba diving and adventure sports also feature iin the vast choice of things to do for the visitor or holidaymaker in the town.
Westport town and the Quay area have a wide range of excellent restaurants catering for all tastes and prices, many of which specialise in seafood.
Traditional pubs offering traditional music sessions, sit side by side with cosmopolitan pubs offering live bands,craft shops, boutiques, hotels, all within walking distance from apartment.
The town plays host to many festivals and events throughout the year : Westport Horse & Pony Show (May/June), Westport
Folk & Blue Grass Festival, Westport Sea Angling Festival (both June), Westport Music Festival, Gaelforce West Adventure Festival (both August), Westport Horse Fair (September), Westport Arts Festival (October).
Contemporary Arts & Crafts with art galleries such as Custom House Studio at The Quay, the Andrew Stone Gallery on Bridge Street or the Clew Bay Hotel Gallery, all open year round are well worth a visit.
