The Kerry Region

Kerry has successfully marketed the natural beauty and magical atmosphere that the county has in abundance and is the most popular destinations in Ireland.
Located in the south western tip of Ireland, Kerry is a rugged county of mountainous peaks, scenic Lakeland valleys and timeless rural character. Kerry is home to Ireland's highest mountain, Carrantouhil at 1039m situated in the heart of the Macgillycuddy's Reeks. Explore the Lakes of Killarney or visit Tralee Town for some retail therapy. County Kerry is known locally as the Kingdom of Kerry. Indeed in the Gaelic sport of football the Kingdom often reigns supreme, with the Co. Kerry Football team taking the trip to Croke Park in Dublin and returning with the All Ireland trophy more times than any other county. The climate varies with moderate temperatures throughout the year, during the summer months the temperature could be 15-20oc. Way out west is Dingle, Europe's most westerly peninsula a place of timeless character, famed as the location for the film Ryan's Daughter. Dingle is largely a Gaeltacht, an Irish Speaking district and is a place where the language and lore of old are both kept very much alive. On the Dingle is Ireland's second largest mountain, Mount Brandon standing at 951m high. The Dingle Way walk comes through the town by way of the Connor Pass. This mountain pass offers spectacular views of Brandon Bay, Tralee Bay and Dingle Bay if the weather is clear.

Dingle Area

The main street in Annascaul boast several pubs, restaurants , a church, two grocer shop, doctors surgery and a post office. Passing through the village, one will note it's smart and tidy layout. Then seeing the "South Pole Inn", an historic link comes to mind. It is of course that of the famous Antarctic explorer Tom Crean.

Locally known as the "Unsung Hero", Tom Crean played a vital part in several expeditions under both Scott and Shackleton. After retiring from the naval service, Crean returned to his home town, Annascaul, to set up what is now the "South Pole Inn". He is fondly remembered through an exhibition of spectacular Antarctic photographs in the pub and is also commemorated by a bronze statue across the road.
Inch Beach 7km a short coastal drive from the cottage. Annascaul's beautiful Lake 1.5 km from cottage. Annascaul Walking club hold walks most weekends with routes to suit all abilities. Annnascaul Walking Festival is an annual event held in October.
Situated in the heart of the Dingle peninsula Annascaul lies between Tralee/Killarney and the beautiful fishing port of Dingle.Walking - Hill/Road. Traditional Music, Fishing - Sea 7km. Horse riding 17km. Highlights of Annascaul include walking, cycling, golfing or just soaking up the atmosphere in one of local pubs or in Dingle's great pubs, Dingle has the Dolphin, boat trips to the historical Blasket Islands , visiting the Gallarus Oratory, taking in the exceptional scenery .Dingle is the most westerly town in Europe and the chief town of the peninsula. It is an excellent centre for the visitor and though a progressive town, it still retains much of the old-world atmosphere of a fishing village. Dingle is an Irish-speaking fishing port and is home to Ireland's most famous dolphin "Fungie.. Spend the day in Inch Beach with it numerous water-sports or enjoy a meal/drink in Sammys Bar and Restaurant situated on the beach. The area holds several festivals during the year including food fairs, traditional music festivals, regattas and much more. Enjoy a great meal in any of the restaurants and lets not forget the bustling towns of Tralee/Killarney are within easy reach. Whether it is walking on the mountains, cruising on the bay, horse riding, golfing, fishing, touring or soaking up the best of music you will not be disappointed . Local indoor activities for those days the weather isn't kind, include Dingle Ocean World, Dingle Climbing Wall, Dingle Bowling Alley or futher afield in Tralee the AquaDome or Omniplex. Corner Cottage , Annascaul in the Dingle Peninsula, will probably be one of the highlights of any trip to Ireland. It's an ideal destination for those in search of the "craic" and beautiful scenery.
